The Paramus Rotary Club is always looking forward to provide scholarships for graduating high school students living in Paramus. Visiting last week's meeting was one of those deserving students - Nancy Huffman. Nancy thanked the Paramus Rotary club for her scholarship, provided some background on the HS experiences, and shared her plans for college and the future. Nancy is a high honors graduate of Paramus High School and will be attending the University of Maryland perusing studies in Animal Behavior, hoping to eventually go into Veterinarian Medicine. Nancy is the [name sake] granddaughter of our club member Nancy Huffman who has been in Rotary since November 1989.
We also very much appreciated the information received from our guest speaker Jean Kirch, Director of Development for the Center of Hope and Safety [Formerly Shelter Our Sisters] where “They Rebuild Life Beyond Domestic Abuse”. They are a not-for-profit agency founded in 1976. They strongly believe that every person has the right to be safe, empowered, and free from violence and the fear of violence. Their mission is to help victims of domestic violence heal and grow through a wide range of services that give the tools needed to leave the violence, and empower victims and their children for new beginnings.
The message left for us was – Become aware of abuse – try to help – refer victims to The Center for Hope and Safety – volunteer – donate.
