Paramus Rotary News

President MaryAnn Siniscalchi congratulated the Membership Committee for their planning and work which made this year’s event a major success. As a result we had 2 new members make immediate applications.

The Board voted to accept Shelia Criscione and Dawn Fierenzo as members and Paul Troast will circulate a letter. Scott Lippert reported that the cash raffle is on track, checks are coming in. Bernie Wilker reported that he will be attending PETS (which is required of all incoming presidents) in early April. He also reported that next year the Board will meet at the Bonefish Grill (previously Max’s Cafe).

Stan Hermann reported that the first Thursday in June has been set as Past President’s Day . Mike Kurzawski will be organizing this event and letters will be sent. Roy Borgeson reported that 32 guests attended last week’s meeting due to 18 of our members. Each guest has already been contacted and the committee feels there is the potential for 12 new members as a result of the event.

Ken Sorenson read a letter from the Waldwick Superintendent of Schools expressing thanks for the dictionaries distributed to Waldwick Schools. He also reported that drivers are needed for Career Day. That planning is still continuing and the Committee meets regularly.

Barry Fowler made a motion to make Dee Day and Dr. McEvoy Paul Harris Fellows. They have worked tirelessly on the Career Day event. Lee Rickenberg reported that the President’s Ball will be held at the Rockleigh Country Club and will cost $100 per person.

The Progressive Dinner is on track and the Boy Scout Food Drive is proceeding. The Rotary Leadership Institute at Seton Hall will be held on April 12 and details can be found on the district website. She also reported that the District Assembly will be held on April 26 at the Fiesta.

Barry Fowler reported that we have received 22 scholarship applications to date which is more than last year. A date will be set for the committee to review. Mary Ann Orecchio reported that plans are still in place for the district’s fact finding committee trip to Comayagua, Honduras in April. Discussion ensured as to the practicality of this project. No decisions can be made until we have more information.

Mary Ann also reported that the appropriate letter requesting funds from the Walter Head 9/11 fund for park benches has been sent to Calisto Bertin, a Walter Head Foundation Trustee. He will present our request at their meeting which is scheduled for March 12 and let us know if funds have been approved. These benches will be dedicated to those lost on September 11, 2001
